Microsoft’s Project Latte

What is Project Latte?

Project Latte is Microsoft’s best effort to bring Android apps on Windows 10. This support will be targeting to eliminate the need for Android emulation or phone mirroring on Windows 10. Previously there was no official support for Android on Windows. Users have to emulate Android apps on their PCs, but with the launch of the Project Latte, Android apps can easily run on Windows 10.

This initiative would allow Android App Developers to bring their Android apps to Windows 10 with few code alterations and will likely run a Microsoft-provided Android subsystem that builds on the Windows subsystem to Linux.

More About Project Latte

The Project Latte would also eliminate the need of installing the frustrating software to run Android apps on their desktop. Making things simple for developers and allowing them to bring apps on PCs without converting them to Windows version and can also test the software locally in a different environment.

Though Project Latte will not include any support from Google Play Services, Google doesn’t allow play services to be installed on anything other than native Android devices and Chrome OS. This simply means that apps that require play services APIs will need to be updated to remove those dependencies before they can be submitted on Windows 10.

How Windows Users & App Developers Would be Benefitted?

Currently, users run Android apps on their PCs via app streaming. Being able to install and run Android apps locally on your PC will provide a much better experience and won’t depend on what phone you have.

Project Latte will allow app developers to bring over apps that don’t already have a Windows version available. Bringing Android apps to the platform will make Windows 10 a near-universal OS when it comes to application support.

Roadblocks For Project Latte:-

While Project Latte on Windows 10 is very ambitious to help developers, there is something that you must take into account to temper your expectations. Google does not officially allow Play services to be installed on emulators and Android-based desktop OS. This simply means that Project Latte won’t be certified by Google and Windows 10 is unlikely to ship with Google play services, out of the box.

This brings us to be broken Android experience on Windows 10 as apps largely rely on Google Play Services APIs to offer notifications, updates, and more. In addition, many of the Google apps and services that we mostly use won’t work as intended. It means apps that are dependent on Google Play services will have to remove such codes and needs to repackage with other background services.

When is Project Latte on Windows 10 Arriving?

Project Latte will be coming to Windows 10 this year, Perhaps with the October 2021 update. However, we have to wait and see if Microsoft drops any hint at Microsoft Build which is expected to be taking place in May 2021.

Final Words:-

So that was all about Project Latte and how Microsoft is aiming to bring Android apps on Windows 10. It’s clear that Microsoft wants to make windows 10 an all-encompassing OS where one can run anything and everything, be it Win32, UWP, Linux, PWA, or Android apps.

It will be interesting to see how Microsoft pulls it off. Anyway, that is all from us. If you are excited about running Android apps on Windows 10 then let us know. We are here to help you. Send your queries at-sales@codestoresolutions.com
